KUALA LUMPUR:

All large-scale public housing projects in the capital should include essential facilities such as vertical schools, says Prime Minister Ibrahim.

said developers should adopt the “Madani housing” concept, which prioritises centralised and comprehensive basic facilities for residents.

He said any housing development with more than 3,000 units must have educational facilities, from preschool to secondary school, for the convenience of residents.

“Some blocks must be allocated for vertical schools with dedicated lifts,” he said in his speech at the launch of Residensi Aman Lumayan in Bandar Tasik Permaisuri, Cheras.

“One block can proceed (with the construction if the school is built), but another block must be delayed until all these requirements are met. If they are not fulfilled, the project should not proceed.”

It was reported that the education ministry has finalised its guidelines for the development of vertical schools, taking into account basic principles for the design, including supervision and student safety.

Deputy education minister Wong Kah Woh said the guidelines would be presented to the Cabinet soon.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall had previously proposed the construction of more vertical-concept schools to address land constraints and the growing population in the capital city.

Anwar also said careful planning involving developers and government urban planners is crucial before implementing any project.

“Where are the schools? The kindergartens? The preschools? The healthcare spaces? All of these must be included. And vertical schools must have dedicated lifts.

“Urban planners must understand the Madani framework,” he said, stressing that these requirements are not meant to burden developers with extra costs.

Residensi Aman Lumayan will feature 3,438 units costing RM300,000 each.

Danau Lumayan Sdn Bhd managing director Shahril Reza Shaheen said the three-phase project is expected to be completed within five years.

He said the development is close to various amenities, including the proposed MRT3 Sri Permaisuri station located less than 500m away.
