Landslide destroys Sabah home, PM Anwar steps in with cash aid

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim today handed over a contribution to Melvin Funk, whose home was affected by a landslide in Kampung Duvanson, Putatan, Sabah, yesterday.

The initial cash assistance was handed over by the Prime Minister’s political secretary, Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, when he visited the family.

“Tuan Awang Husaini (Sahari), who is also a local community leader, and I visited the site with the Sabah Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) to assess the immediate actions needed. I also delivered the Prime Minister’s cash aid as initial assistance.

“Thankfully, no lives were lost, but the impact on this family is profound,” Ahmad Farhan said in a Facebook post today, which was also shared by .

Ahmad Farhan said the house, painstakingly built with the family’s savings accumulated over many years, was destroyed in an instant when the landslide struck around 10 pm.

He said that at the time of the incident, all four family members were inside the house and managed to escape after feeling the tremor and hearing a loud crash from the rear of the property.
