ALOR STAR: Residents in flood-prone areas of Kota Setar have been advised to remain on alert and be prepared to evacuate should floodwaters from neighbouring districts spread into the area.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) director, Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Mohd Bukhori Mat Sidik, said monitoring efforts showed that water had begun flowing into Kota Setar, with several areas already reporting ankle-deep flooding.
“If heavy rain coincides with high tide or river overflows from the affected neighbouring districts, there is a possibility that Kota Setar may also experience flooding.
“APM, together with other rescue agencies, continues to monitor flood-prone areas. Although today’s weather is clear, we remain on standby for any eventuality,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a strong wind warning expected to cause rough seas from Oct 25 to 29.
Residents near coastal areas, especially fishermen, have been urged to exercise caution when going out to sea, while the public is advised to postpone recreational activities by the beach for now.
