Komuniti MADANI must Help Gov't Counter Spread Of Slander – Fahmi

TAWAU, Sept 7 (Bernama) — Komuniti MADANI groups in the country not only play the role of spokespersons but must also help the government counter the spread of slander, said Communications Minister Datuk Fadzil.

He said there are currently 1,878 Komuniti MADANI nationwide that play an important role in conveying accurate information about government policies to the people and channelling public feedback to the government.

“Each state constituency has at least one Komuniti MADANI , and in the Merotai constituency alone, there are three. Therefore, as part of Komuniti MADANI, we must help the government, especially in countering  slander.

“In addition, do not spread inaccurate information. If you receive any information, verify its authenticity before sharing it with others,” he said when speaking at the ‘Kupi-Kupi Bersama Menteri Komunikasi’ event in Kampung Sungai Imam here today.

Also present was Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.

Elaborating further, expressed hope that the public would maintain regular contact with Komuniti MADANI groups if they had any issues.

“If there are problems, contact your Komuniti MADANI and they will forward the matter to the government for further action,” he said.

In addition, said the government, through the Communications Ministry, is committed to ensuring good Internet access for the people and advised that such facilities be utilised for positive purposes such as business and family communication.

“I often come to Sabah because I want to resolve the Internet problems in this state. We want to ensure that all people receive good Internet connectivity, but my advice is to use it wisely.

“Use the Internet for good purposes, for example, for business, communicating with children and family. Do not use the Internet to spread slander or other harmful things,” he said.

He also advised adults, especially the elderly, not to be easily deceived by scams on social media.

“This has happened many times, for example, the ‘Love Scam’, which has caused significant losses. A male victim thought a beautiful woman was communicating with him, but in reality, it was a scammer and actually a man,” he said.
