KMJG 2025 Convoy Arrives In Penang, Presses On With National Day Message

NIBONG TEBAL, Aug 4 (Bernama) — The 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy continued its journey to Penang today, as part of its mission to enliven the spirit of National Month celebrations.

Penang Information Department (JaPen) director Hasmiza Hussin said a total of 40 vehicles from various government agencies, involving 100 individuals, participated in the convoy led by her department.

The participating agencies included the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Broadcasting Department, the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Department of Community Communications (J-KOM), and Pos Malaysia.

Also taking part in the convoy were representatives from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), as well as a motorcycle group from the Northern V-Strom Owners (NVO) Motor Club.

“This convoy will cover approximately 170 kilometres over two days, beginning today. It will make stopovers at several checkpoints across five districts in Penang, with the first stop at the Sungai Acheh Jamek Mosque in the Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS), before continuing to other locations and eventually heading to the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT),” she said.

“Tomorrow, the convoy will begin its journey from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Maung, continue to the Timur Laut district, and conclude in the Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district, before being officially handed over to Kedah,” she told reporters at the flag-off ceremony of the 2025 KMJG Convoy, officiated by Sungai Acheh assemblyman Datuk Rashidi Zinol at the Sungai Acheh Jamek Mosque today.

Earlier, Hasmiza received the KMJG convoy from Perak, led by Perak JaPen director Yosri Abu Mahsin.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Northern V-Strom Owners (NVO) Motor Club and Penang NVO coordinator, Norshaheezam Ahmad, said that this marked the group’s second year participating in the KMJG, involving a convoy of 20 motorcycles.

He expressed full support for the programme, which he said serves as a meaningful way to promote the message of independence and deepen public appreciation for the nation’s history.

“Without the sacrifices of our forefathers 68 years ago, we wouldn’t have achieved the independence and progress we enjoy today. As Malaysians, we must honour their struggle and work to preserve our nation’s peace and prosperity for future generations,” he said.

“Apart from that, we also want to rekindle the spirit of the past, when people would eagerly gather to witness the Jalur Gemilang flying high, especially during convoy crossings. We want to revive that excitement, particularly among school students,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rashidi, who is also state Trade, Entrepreneurship and Rural Development Committee chairman, expressed hope that Penangites, especially those in the Sungai Acheh area, would continue to foster the spirit of independence by proudly flying the Jalur Gemilang at their homes and premises, while also remembering the sacrifices made by national heroes in the fight against colonialism.
