Kluang cops nab alleged burglar and car thief

KLUANG: Police have arrested a 29-year-old foreign man for allegedly stealing a car.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said a man lodged a police report after his car went missing at Jalan Perpaduan, Yap Tau Sah, at 9.45am on Aug 8.

“The suspect was arrested in a raid at Jalan Berkat, Taman Emas 3 on Saturday (Aug 30) and police managed to recover the stolen car.

“Checks revealed that the suspect had no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs,” he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 1).

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in jail, a fine or both.

The suspect was remanded for three days from Aug 31 to Sept 3 at the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court.

In a separate case, police arrested a local man believed to be involved in a burglary at Taman Md Yassin, Simpang Renggam, at about 10pm on Saturday (Aug 30).

ACP Bahrin said a male complainant had filed a report at about 5.50pm on Tuesday (Aug 26).

“Checks revealed that the suspect had no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs.

“The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail, a fine, or both if convicted,” he said.

He added that the suspect has been remanded for three days from Aug 31 to Sept 4 at the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court.
