SINGAPORE, Sept 24 (Bernama) — Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has been named Asia Pacific’s most connected airport and the fourth most connected globally in the Megahubs 2025 report released on Wednesday.
The report, published by OAG, the world’s leading data platform for the global travel industry, also ranked KLIA first in the Low-Cost Carrier Airport Megahubs category.
“Kuala Lumpur’s dual success as both a global top hub and the world’s leading low-cost Megahub highlights the region’s unique ability to serve travellers across all segments,” said OAG Head of Asia Pacific, Mayur Patel, in a statement.
Heathrow Airport (LHR), Istanbul Airport (IST), and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) rank as the top three Global Airport Megahubs.
Now in its tenth year, the Megahubs report highlights the growing strength of the Asia Pacific aviation sector, with three airports in the global Top 10.
Besides KLIA, other Asia Pacific airports in the global Top 10 are Incheon International Airport (ICN), ranked sixth, and Haneda Airport (HND), ranked ninth. Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) placed 11th.
“The Asia Pacific region has cemented its reputation as a global powerhouse in aviation, balancing world-class full-service hubs with dynamic low-cost connectivity,” Patel said.
OAG noted that the Asia Pacific region dominates in low-cost aviation, being home to 16 of the world’s Top 25 LCC (Low-Cost Carrier) Megahubs.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) made one of the biggest jumps in the LCC list this year, climbing 20 places to fourth, driven by Cathay Pacific’s HK Express.
The OAG Megahubs 2025 report ranks the connectivity of the world’s leading international airport hubs—both globally and regionally—as well as gateways into domestic markets, providing a platform for comparison.
These unique rankings are generated by comparing the number of scheduled connections to and from international flights with the number of destinations served by the airport.
