PETALING JAYA:

The disruption in services involving one of the two aerotrains at KLIA yesterday was caused by a dislodged “current collector device”, says Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

MAHB managing director Izani Ghani said preliminary investigations showed this triggered the loss of power to the train.

“We are equally disappointed, considering that the Aerotrain had just undergone a scheduled two-week maintenance involving all contractors,” he said in a statement today.

Izani said Alstom, the lead company for the project, will provide a more detailed report on the incident and work with MAHB engineers during daily train maintenance hours to spot any potential risks.

“I have also requested an exhaustive remediation plan to minimise such occurrences in the future.

“While there were no disruptions to airport operations and passenger transfers between terminals during the incident, our aim is to get ahead of operational issues,” he said.

The incident occurred at 1.36pm as the train was approaching the satellite terminal.

However, the other aerotrain continued operating as normal and passenger transfers between the main and satellite terminals were not impacted.

The incident comes shortly after the aerotrain resumed 24-hour operations following a scheduled two‑week overnight maintenance period between Aug 18 and Aug 31.
