KUALA LUMPUR, Nov — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has urged Malaysians, including those in the Klang Valley, to take extra precautions as thunderstorms and heavy rain sweep across several states this evening.
The thunderstorm warning, issued at 5.30pm, remains in effect until 9pm and covers large parts of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
Residents in Kuala Lumpur, Gombak, Hulu Langat and surrounding districts are advised to expect strong winds, lightning and heavy downpours.
The department said rainfall intensity could exceed 20 millimetres per hour and persist for over an hour in some areas, potentially causing flash floods.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously as slippery roads and reduced visibility are expected during peak evening traffic.
In the northern and southern states, the warning applies to Perlis, Kedah, Johor and several districts in Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu.
MetMalaysia said residents should avoid outdoor activities during the storm and stay tuned for real-time updates via its website and social media platforms.
It reiterated that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories lasting no more than six hours and will be updated as conditions develop.
