KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Police have recommended that three policemen arrested over allegations of extortion and sexual coercion involving an 18-year-old female student be charged in court, The New Straits Times reported today.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the investigation paper has been completed and referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.
“We referred the IP with the recommendation that the three be charged,” he said.
Fadil added that one of the policemen is recommended to be charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force with the intent to outrage modesty.
The offence carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine, caning, or any combination of these penalties.
“Additionally, we recommended that the three of them be charged under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion,” he said.
Conviction under this section carries imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these penalties.
The police chief confirmed that a disciplinary investigation has also been launched following the victim’s report.
“The policemen involved in this case have been removed from field duty. They will be suspended upon receiving instructions to suspend them,” he added.
The allegations date back to September, when the three officers were reportedly arrested for extortion and sexual coercion involving the student.
According to her report, the incident occurred in Sentul in the early hours of September 17, when she and her boyfriend were stopped by the officers.
The student claimed she was threatened with prosecution over private photos found on her boyfriend’s phone. She also alleged that one of the policemen proposed repeated sexual encounters and molested her.
The case has sparked widespread attention and renewed debate over accountability within the police force.
