KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department has seized 32 imported vehicles worth more RM8.45mil for breaching bonded warehouse licence conditions.
Its Kuala Lumpur director Wan Norizan Wan Daud said the vehicles were seized between July 29 and Aug 7 in an operation codenamed Ops Purple.
“The raids were conducted at warehouses in Setapak and Sungai Penchala.
“We discovered the imported vehicles had been stored for more than 48 months, exceeding the maximum period allowed under warehouse licence conditions set out in Sections 65(2) and 65(5) of the Customs Act 1967.
“The vehicles, valued at RM3.07mil, carried an estimated RM5.37mil in unpaid import duties and taxes, bringing the total value of seizures to RM8.45mil,” she said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 18).
The investigations revealed abuse of duty exemptions under Section 4 of the Customs Act, she added.
“We urge those with information on Customs offences, including smuggling activities, to come forward immediately.
“The public can contact the department via the Customs hotline 1-800-88-8855 or the nearest Customs office. We guarantee the confidentiality of informants,” she said.
