KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, is expected to launch Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd’s (KTMB) new Electric Train Service (ETS) at Kuala Lumpur Railway Station on Saturday (Aug 23) before heading to Kluang for the official opening of the Taman Linear Warisan Keretapi.

According to an invitation to the event sighted by the New Straits Times, the special launch, scheduled to begin at 7am, will see His Majesty board the inaugural ETS3 service (EP9511) bound for Kluang, with a series of programmes including an in-train briefing, photo sessions, and a walkabout with passengers.

Earlier today, Sultan Ibrahim took the driver’s seat to test-drive the electric train from Kuala Lumpur to Rawang.

On Saturday, the train is expected to depart Kuala Lumpur at 7.45am and arrive in Kluang at 11.10am, where a mini exhibition featuring nearby stations Paloh, Labis, and Bekok will be held.

Sultan Ibrahim is also expected to make a special announcement from the captain’s cockpit during the journey.

The day’s highlight in Johor will be the King’s walkabout and the official opening of the Taman Linear Warisan Keretapi Kluang, followed by a luncheon at the iconic Kluang Rail Coffee.

The park, also known as the Kluang Heritage Railway Linear Park, is a 2.8km green corridor built on former railway land, featuring walkways, recreational spaces, and heritage elements.

It is Malaysia’s first railway linear park, designed to revitalise Kluang town while preserving its rail legacy.
