KOTA BARU: The call for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resign as Bersatu president made by 16 members of parliament was for the good of the party.
Ketereh MP Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor, who was one of the 16, said the call was made to “bring an end to the problem”, amid mounting pressure on party leaders following internal disputes.
He said Bersatu itself was not facing structural issues, but that the problems stemmed from the actions and decisions of certain leaders.
“The party is not the problem. The problem lies with the leaders. That is why we made the call — to settle this matter for the good of Bersatu,” he said when contacted.
It was reported yesterday that 16 Bersatu MPs had called on Muhyiddin to resign as the party’s president.
Besides Khlir, the other MPs included Zikri Hassan (Kangar), Datuk Dr Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail (Kubang Pasu), Roslan Hashim (Kulim-Bandar Baharu), Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang) and Datuk Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu).
The others were Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (Tasek Gelugor), Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik), Azahari Hassan (Padang Rengas), Nordin Ahmad Ismail (Lumut), Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah (Rompin), Kalam Salan (Sabak Bernam), Datuk Muslimin Yahaya (Sungai Besar) and Islahuddin Abas (Mersing).
In a joint media statement signed by all the MPs, they expressed support for vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, who recently called for Muhyiddin to step down immediately.
