Kelantan towing company overwhelmed as Hat Yai flood victims seek help

KOTA BARU: A towing company that typically handles routine accident or breakdown cases is now operating around the clock following the devastating floods in Hat Yai, Thailand.

For BZ Auto Services, a family-run business based in Bachok, the past week has been unlike any other.

Calls have been pouring in — mostly from Kelantanese whose vehicles were submerged in the floods across Hat Yai city, with some requests coming in from Terengganu motorists.

Tow truck driver Mohamad Nazwan, from Melor, said the surge in demand began early this week.

“Usually, we handle local accident cases or cars that break down.

“But suddenly we started receiving nonstop calls from Malaysians stranded in Hat Yai.

“Many of them had to leave their vehicles behind when the water rose,” he said.

Nazwan has been making multiple trips daily to transport flood-damaged cars from Rantau Panjang to Kota Baru.

He said the company charges RM250 to tow a vehicle along the route.

“Most of the vehicles we tow will be sent straight to workshops.

“Some owners are still comparing prices or deciding what to do because the damage can be quite severe,” he said.

Despite the long hours and the physical demands of towing waterlogged vehicles, Nazwan said he feels a sense of responsibility to help fellow Malaysians who are still reeling from the unexpected disaster.

“At times like this, people are stressed and worried. If we can ease their burden even a little, that already feels meaningful,” he added.

Many vehicles belonging to Malaysians were submerged after floods hit the popular city almost two week ago.

The Hat Yai floods also left many Malaysians stranded for days after the hotels they stayed in were surrounded by rising waters.
