KOTA BARU: Kelantan police chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, has confirmed receiving a threat believed to be linked to a crime syndicate affected by the state police’s action against criminal activities.
He said the threat was received on Dec 22 through red ink graffiti on the wall of the Kelantan Contingent Police Firing Range in Gunong, Bachok.
Mohd Yusoff said the warning may have been issued by syndicate members angered by the police’s firmness in curbing crime in the state.
“We are carrying out our duties, so there is nothing to fear. I do not rule out the possibility that this act was carried out by those who felt challenged by Kelantan police’s strict measures against crime, involving Ah Long syndicates and others.
“Based on the writing on the wall and the language used, I do not dismiss the possibility that this was planned in advance by the syndicate,” he said when contacted.
He added that investigations are ongoing under Sections 427 and 506 of the Penal Code.
“Kelantan police are working to identify the masterminds behind this incident. I urge members of the public with any information to come forward and assist the police,” he said.
Earlier today, several photos circulated on social media showing red ink graffiti with threatening messages targeting the Kelantan police chief at the Kelantan Contingent Police Firing Range in Gunong. One of the messages read: “Jangan Lari Dato KP.”
