KOTA BHARU, Sept 10 (Bernama) — The Kelantan government has instructed the Forestry Department and Department of Land and Mines (PTG) to investigate cases involving illegal gold mining and timber logging.
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the state government views the matter seriously because it involves natural resources, which are also the people’s wealth.
“Anything involving government property is serious; it starts small and then grows large. In this regard, I request that the enforcement authorities, whether from the federal or state government, take this seriously to curb it from the outset because it is government property and belongs to the people.
“There have been some cases reported to us unofficially, but I have asked certain parties such as the Forestry Department and the Land and Mines Office (PTG) to investigate,” he told reporters after the exco meeting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here today.
He also requested that members of the public who have reports regarding illegal mining and such provide complete information so that his department can take further action.
“We cannot take action if we don’t know if the issue is true or not. So we need complete information to be furnished so that we can take action. We also want the people to share responsibility.
“The government authorities may find it hard to detect the location in question, but the people can cooperate by reporting to us immediately any suspicious activities or questionable vehicles entering and exiting,” he said.
On Monday, police detained three foreign nationals for their involvement in illegal gold mining activities following a raid on an oil palm plantation area in Sungai Seting, Gua Musang.
Bukit Aman Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) commander SAC Rosli Md Yusof said two Myanmar nationals and one Indonesian national were arrested after being suspected of conducting gold mining activities without a permit and failing to produce travel documents.
