Keep calm, we'll manage Perlis fallout, Tuan Ibrahim tells Pas members

KOTA BARU: deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has urged party members and leaders to remain calm amid the political fallout in Perlis, following Bersatu’s takeover of the state administration.

“Let us (the leadership) manage the situation. We will hold internal discussions and engage the Perikatan Nasional central leadership,” Tuan Ibrahim told the New Straits Times.

“We realise that many members and even some leaders are unhappy with what has happened.

“But we must handle the situation carefully.”

Tuan Ibrahim said while political stability in Perlis hinged on which held the majority of the seats in the state assembly, the party respected the Raja of Perlis’ decision to appoint Bersatu’s Abu Bakar Hamzah as menteri besar.

Abu Bakar replaced ‘ Mohd Shukri Ramli, who resigned citing health reasons shortly after five Bersatu and three Pas assemblymen withdrew support for Shukri.

Several Pas leaders have voiced their unhappiness with the situation, with the Tasek Gelugor Pas Youth wing urging the party to sever ties with Bersatu, accusing them of “betrayal and backstabbing” over the Perlis political crisis.
