BALING, Sept 6 (Bernama) — The Kedah MADANI Rakyat carnival (PMR) drew to a close today as a smashing success, notably for a slew of government services brought to the doorstep for a total of 127,535 visitors recorded over its three-day run.

On the first day of the PMR which was held at the Baling District Council Sports Complex here on Thursday, a total of 29,560 visitors was recorded attending the programme, while the following day saw 41,954 visitors.

The final day of the programme themed ‘Rakyat Prihatin, Negara Aman, Masa Depan Terjamin,’ saw a total of 56,021 visitors attending, bringing the total to 127,535 people.

A visitor to Kedah PMR, Adam Raismaini Mahadir, 15, said he was very excited to have the opportunity to attend the programme which was packed with content that resonated with the local folk.

“The one activity that caught my attention was the Home Ministry (KDN) booth, especially the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) where I could see various equipment and learn a lot about security.

“This is my first time seeing and holding real firearms on display here, at first I thought they were fake. I am very keen on becoming a police officer,” he told Bernama here today.

Another visitor Mohd Azri Iskandar Abdul Muiz, 15, said that he and his schoolmates arrived since early morning to explore the various interesting exhibitions at PMR.

“This is my first time attending a programme like this, it was really fun and exciting. I gained a lot of new knowledge and experience, I hope there will be more programmes like this for residents in rural areas,” he said.

Various engaging programmes were held throughout this PMR including booths from federal and state government agencies, Rahmah MADANI Sales, Agro MADANI Sales, discounts on traffic summonses, health services, job opportunities and a free helmet exchange.

In addition, visitors also had the opportunity to bring home various types of plant seeds, change motorcycle engine oil and enjoy a free haircut.

This programme demonstrates the government’s commitment to bringing services directly to the people’s doorsteps through a closer, friendly and more inclusive approach.

The highlight of the PMR was the closing ceremony this afternoon, by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim and attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Md Nor.
