KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) handed Kedah Darul Aman and Perak a jaw-dropping two-season suspensions for failing to secure the mandatory National Licence for the 2025-2026 campaign.
“The board of directors has decided to suspend Kedah and Perak from all MFL competitions for two seasons, effective 2025-2026 until 2026-2027, for failing to obtain the National Licence,” read MFL’s statement after its 15th board of directors meeting.
It wasn’t just Kedah and Perak who felt the axe.
“Sri Pahang FC, who have withdrawn from the M-League, are suspended from all MFL competitions for one season starting 2025-2026,” the statement read.
Under the MFL constitution, “any club that withdraws from the M-League will not receive any benefits from MFL and is prohibited from football-related activities,” a stern reminder of the penalties facing non-compliant teams.
To make matters worse, the league confirmed that the three clubs will also “lose their right to merit-based financial distribution after the 2024-2025 M-League season,” compounding the financial blow.
