ALOR SETAR, Oct 25 — A family of eight, including a young boy, was safely rescued from a flooded orchard in Kampung Wang Perah, near Jitra, by the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) earlier yesterday.
In a statement, the Kedah JBPM Operations Centre (PGO) said the rescue operation began after the centre received an emergency call at 8.11pm, alerting them that the family was trapped by rising floodwaters in the orchard.
The water levels of a nearby river had surged, leaving the victims stranded and unable to leave the area.
“A team from the Bukit Kayu Hitam Fire and Rescue Station was quickly dispatched to the location, where they faced difficulties approaching the scene due to the severe flooding.
“Despite the challenges, the team managed to rescue four men, three women, and a boy estimated to be between 10 and 12 years old,” the statement said.
Fortunately, all the rescued individuals were unharmed and were subsequently handed over to the police for further assistance. The operation was successfully completed at 10.32pm. — Bernama
