KDN Focuses On Reopening Probes Into Disappearances Of Raymond Koh, Amri Che Mat

, Nov 10 (Bernama) — The Home Ministry (KDN) is giving full attention to implementing the court’s directives in the cases of missing pastor Raymond Koh and activist Amri Che Mat, including reopening investigations into the matter.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the current focus is on the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s ruling, which clearly outlined two key instructions for the police, and that he has already received a briefing from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

“Last Friday, I met with the AGC team handling this case. I needed to be briefed to understand the chronology of events.

“So my focus now is on the court’s directives requiring the police to do two things. The first is to resume investigations… and the second is to establish the whereabouts of Pastor Koh — to bring him forward and show him. Those are the two matters, so that’s where my focus lies,” he told a press conference after attending the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (WDAT) event here today.

He was responding to questions about his earlier meeting with AGC officers to obtain a full briefing following the court’s decision ordering the government to pay damages over the disappearances of Amri and Koh.

Amri was reported missing on Nov 24, 2016, while Koh disappeared on Feb 13, 2017.

On Nov 5, the court ordered the government to pay a total of RM3,264,457.52 in damages, along with costs and interest, to Amri’s wife, Norhayati Mohd Ariffin. The court also ordered the government to pay over RM37 million to Koh’s wife, Susanna Liew.

The decision was made after the court allowed the lawsuits filed by both women against the government and the police over the disappearances of their respective husbands.

On a separate matter, Saifuddin Nasution said police will take appropriate action to track down Indira Gandhi’s former husband, Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, who is wanted in connection with a child custody case.

This follows a news portal report alleging that Muhammad Riduan is still in Malaysia and benefiting from government aid schemes such as BUDI MADANI (BUDI95) and the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme.

“I will continue to ensure that the police take the necessary steps. For now, I haven’t received any briefing on the matter yet, but I will request one so that I can be properly prepared to address the public on this issue,” he said.
