Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) has named its deputy president, Wetrom Bahanda, as its chief minister candidate if the party succeeds in forming the next Sabah government.
KDM acting president Priscella Peter said the party’s president, Peter Anthony, had proposed Wetrom for the post, with the party’s leadership council unanimously agreeing to the matter during its meeting in Penampang today.
Priscella said the meeting also discussed potential candidates and constituencies to be contested, adding that KDM was ready to face the upcoming state election, which it will contest solo.
She said more than 40 seats had been identified, along with the prospective candidates.
“KDM will announce the constituencies and candidates at the right time, most likely after the Sabah state assembly is dissolved,” she said.
Wetrom, the Bandau assemblyman, is KDM’s sole representative in the Sabah state assembly.
Last Saturday, Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor hinted that the state assembly may be dissolved in the coming weeks, but stopped short of revealing the exact date.
The assembly’s term expires on Nov 11, if not dissolved earlier, and an election must be held within 60 days of dissolution.
