Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) has announced three more candidates for the upcoming Sabah state election, including a former state footballer and a popular singer from the 1980s.
The candidates are Henry Saimpon, who once played for the Sabah football team, veteran singer John Samud, and former permanent secretary of the Sabah finance ministry, Rusdin Riman.
The announcement was made by KDM deputy president Wetrom Bahanda, who also serves as the party’s election director, during a party event in Paginatan, Ranau, today.
Wetrom said Henry will contest in Kiulu, John in Tempasuk, and Rusdin in Paginatan.
“These three candidates come from different backgrounds, but they share the same spirit and commitment to serve the people.
“We are confident that they will put up a strong fight in the coming election,” he said in a statement.
Previously, KDM had announced several other candidates, including Jeffry Ali to contest Kundasang, Oswald Aisat Igau (Tulid), Gaim Lunkapis (Tamparuli), Mckery Victor (Moyog) and Almudin Kaida (Pintasan).
KDM acting president Priscella Peter said the party had identified more than 40 seats to contest, along with the prospective candidates.
Wetrom, the Bandau assemblyman, is KDM’s sole representative in the Sabah state assembly.
The assembly’s term expires on Nov 11, if not dissolved earlier, and an election must be held within 60 days after that.
