Kampung Sungai Baru Incident: PAS’ Silence Over Injury To Security Personnel Is Deafening

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) — Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the political secretary to the Finance Minister, has questioned the action of leaders for their silence over the Kampung Sungai Baru commotion that resulted in a police officer being injured yesterday.

He said that Pasir Mas Member of Parliament Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who issued a statement regarding the eviction of 37 units of terrace houses in the area, never touched on the incident or condemned the individuals involved in causing the injury to the officer.

“Justifying violence or physical aggression against security personnel in a situation where none of the residents were harmed by the authorities is something that deserves condemnation and criticism from all parties who value peace.

“Is today determined to uphold a culture of political extremism after the recent Qunut Nazilah incident, and today remains silent when security personnel are treated in such a manner?” he posted on X.

Muhammad Kamil said certain leaders who practised politics based on ala khawarij (extremism) must be strongly opposed and rejected for a Malaysia that is peaceful and stable.

Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman sustained a head injury after being struck by a stone thrown by an unidentified individual during the eviction of 37 units of terrace houses in Kampung Sungai Baru yesterday.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Kamil urged that an investigation be conducted transparently and fairly to provide proper justice for the police officer involved.

He added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim had previously stated that the government is open to constructive criticisms and reprimands on any issues.

“This healthy democratic culture continues to flourish under the MADANI Government, and the authorities provide space and facilities for any objections or criticisms to be made in a proper and civilised manner, and not contrary to the principles of the Constitution and the law.

“But the statement (by PAS) seems to be an ‘enabler’ for the violent and savage actions that occurred in Kampung Sungai Baru,” he said.
