PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia’s top singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao advanced to the Hong Kong Open quarter-finals after a hard-fought win over compatriot Justin Hoh today.
The world No 23 needed 65 minutes to defeat Justin, the world No 39, prevailing 21-11, 15-21, 21-18 in the second round of the BWF Super 500 tournament at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
Hoh, 21, had earlier stunned France’s world No 13 Toma Junior Popov in the opening round. He now trails Jun Hao 1-3 in their career meetings.
Jun Hao will face either China‘s Li Shi Feng or Japan’s Koki Watanabe in the last eight. He has won only once in four previous encounters with Shi Feng and has yet to play Watanabe.
