Top men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao booked a spot in the second round of the China Masters after defeating Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting today.
World No 23 Jun Hao needed three games to overcome the Indonesian, winning 21-19, 5-21, 21-10 in a 54-minute match. The pair now have two wins each from their four meetings.
In the last 16, Jun Hao will face world No 4 Li Shi Feng of China, who beat him in the Hong Kong Open quarter-finals last week.
The Malaysian pushed Shi Feng to three games in that match, holding match point before falling to the eventual champion.
Jun Hao is still chasing his first semi-final appearance of the year, with two quarter-final finishes so far.
Separately, mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin advanced to the second round as well after defeating Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana-Indah Cahya Sari Jamil 21-6, 21-14 in 27 minutes.
They will face either Thailand’s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai or China‘s Guo Xinwa-Chen Fanghui in the last 16.
