KOTA TINGGI, Oct 11 — State-owned Kolej Pendidikan Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (YPJ College) will be upgraded to a university college following approval from the Higher Education Ministry on October 7.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi made the announcement at the college’s 26th Convocation Ceremony here today, The Star reported.

“This is a major milestone for education in Johor, which is also in line with Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail’s decree to elevate the standard of education in the state,” he was quoted as saying.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the college’s board chairman, said the upgraded institution is expected to take in its first batch of Bachelor’s degree students in February next year.

“I will seek the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and the Johor Regent for the official name of the university college,” he added.
