Johari confident MCA will stay in BN despite political shifts

KUALA LUMPUR: vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani says he believes MCA will remain in Barisan Nasional (), describing the two as long-standing partners with a strong and enduring working relationship.

Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said the current political landscape clearly shows that no single party can command absolute power, and coalitions must adjust accordingly.

“We have to accept today’s reality; in most countries, one party alone can no longer hold absolute power. What we need to do is adjust,” he told reporters after officiating the 100 Years of Rubber Research Celebration.

He added that ‘s relationship with MCA spanned more than 50 years, and the parties were well used to working together.

“Some other parties may not be at that stage yet, so a period of reconciliation will be necessary,” Johari said.

His remarks come after MCA passed a resolution to leave if any of its component parties cooperates with DAP in the next general election (GE16).

Party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said such cooperation would signify that the BN spirit no longer exists.
