BEAUFORT: Barisan Nasional (BN) has never neglected its responsibilities to the people of Sabah, even during periods when it was in opposition, said Umno vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
Johari, who is also the BN treasurer, highlighted that the party has driven significant development in the state, with many initiatives led by local leaders nurtured by BN.
“BN was in opposition here in 1990 and later governed Sabah for 28 years from 1994. We brought substantial development to the state. Although no government is perfect, we have never abandoned our duty to care for the people of Sabah,” he said.
He added that the progress made up to 2018 was the result of Sabah-based BN leaders, with none of them coming from Peninsular Malaysia.
Johari made the remarks during the launch of BN’s campaign machinery for the Klias and Kuala Penyu state constituencies at the Sweet Cottage Command Centre in Kampung Pintas today.
He also stressed that true leadership means remaining committed to the party regardless of election outcomes.
“For instance, Osin Jilon, BN’s candidate for Klias, did not vie aggressively to be chosen and is running for the first time, yet continues to support the party.
“Another example is Datuk Awang Aslee Lakat, candidate for Kuala Penyu, who has tirelessly served BN over multiple elections. Both exemplify dedication and patience, ultimately earning their candidacies,” Johari said.
