Johari Abdul: Young must have vision, courage, knowledge to lead

MERSING: The young must equip themselves with vision, courage and knowledge if they aspire to become credible leaders of the future.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said vision was the driving force that guided a person towards success.

“Without it, life loses direction, like not knowing whether to head north, south, east or west,” he said at the opening of the 27th Johor Scouts annual gathering at Pantai Tanjung Leman, here today.

Johari said courage was equally crucial, particularly the will to change and step out of one’s comfort zone.

“If you were lazy before, now you must work harder. Change demands extraordinary willpower,” he said.

He added that knowledge must be pursued beyond academics, as it would shape individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to society.

“With these three traits, I believe today’s generation can rise as leaders, whether as education ministers, chief ministers or even armed forces commanders,” he said.

Johari also reminded youths to seize the opportunities provided by scouting as a training ground for leadership and resilience.

“Before us are doctors, former soldiers and community leaders, many of whom once held or still hold important positions.

“Some are close to 80, yet remain loyal to scouting out of love for the movement and the country,” he said.

The 27th Johor Scouts annual gathering, between yesterday (Sept 13) and 17, brings together more than 4,000 scouts from Malaysia and abroad.
