PEKAN: Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah wants to offer a second chance to inmates who are skilled in Tenun Pahang Diraja by providing them with jobs through the Perkampungan Ihsan Al-Sultan Abdullah programme.

Tunku Azizah said the 17 inmates from the Penor and Bentong Prisons who participated in the Tunku Azizah Cup for Tenun Pahang Diraja had inspired her to revive the heritage craft.

“I want to give them a chance to continue this craft once they leave prison,” she said at the prize-giving ceremony for the competition and the opening of the Temasya Warisan Pahang at the Pulau Beram Maritime Museum here on Sunday.

The event was launched by Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The Tunku Azizah Cup aims to discover weaving talent and recognise high-quality Tenun Pahang Diraja artisans, as well as promote the heritage at national and international levels.

Al-Sultan Abdullah also launched the Yayasan Warisan Tunku Azizah, a foundation under the patronage of Yayasan Tenun Pahang Diraja.

Later, Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah viewed the Lukisan Jiwa exhibition, featuring artwork by singer Datuk M. Nasir.
