JDT's Harimau Malaya stars shine in six-goal victory

KUALA LUMPUR: Fresh from Malaysia’s 1-0 win over Palestine last week, Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) internationals wasted no time making an impact as they powered the Super League champions to a crushing 6-0 win over Penang at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Thursday.

National goalkeeper Syihan Hazmi, along with Arif Aiman Hanapi, Joao Figueiredo and Jon Irazabal, all featured for Harimau Malaya on Sept 8, and the quartet carried their form straight back into club duty.

Winger Arif was electric, setting up Jairo da Silva’s opener in the ninth minute before bagging a brace (18th and 31st minutes).

Figueiredo got on the scoresheet in the 33rd minute, while Irazabal added the fifth in first-half stoppage time.

Spanish defender Antonio Glauder completed the rout in the 52nd minute, though there was a scare for the Southern Tigers when Syihan went down after a clash with Penang’s Dylan Wenzel-Halls.

He recovered quickly to see out another clean sheet.

The result stretches JDT’s unbeaten run to five league games.
