PETALING JAYA:

Jalan Masjid India has been reopened to traffic following repairs to a section of the road that subsided earlier today, said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

DBKL said repair work at Jalan Bunus was completed by 6pm.

“DBKL will continue to conduct close monitoring, as well as further inspections and scanning of the location and the surrounding areas,” it said in a statement, adding that road safety remained its priority.

The section of the road in front of the Bombay Jewellery outlet was closed at about 8.40am after it subsided.

On Aug 23 last year, an Indian tourist, G Vijaya Lakshmi, 48, went missing after falling into an 8m-deep sinkhole that opened up at her feet on Jalan Masjid India.

The cause of the sinkhole was recently identified as a failure in a sewer pipe structure, which was corroded by chemical reaction and affected by soil instability.
