KOTA KINABALU: Newly appointed Sabah Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin described his appointment as a great responsibility that he and his team will shoulder in leading the party in the state.

He said his main focus is to ensure better coordination within the party and to strengthen its work at all levels.

“In addition, we want to reinforce engagement with the people through ‘s role as a party that has always been committed to championing Sabah’s interests.

“In today’s political environment, our priority is to strengthen governance and build Sabah together beyond political differences, for the benefit of the people and the state’s future.

“I ask all leaders and members at every level to remain united, strengthen our ranks, and give full support to ensure that Sabah Umno continues to be an effective, respected and relevant political platform that defends the people and supports the state government.

“With commitment and cooperation from all parties, God willing, Sabah Umno will continue moving forward as a strong, stable party and the people’s choice,” he said in a statement today.

Jafry, who is also the Sukau assemblyman, extended his appreciation to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the appointment.

“I would first like to extend my highest appreciation to the Umno president for the trust and mandate given through the appointment of the new Sabah Umno liaison committee leadership lineup.

“This appointment is a major responsibility that we will shoulder together with a spirit of unity and determination to strengthen the party’s position in Sabah.

“I also congratulate Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub and Samasuddin Yusop on their respective appointments,” he said.

The new line-up of Sabah Umno’s liaison committee also includes Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub as deputy chairman, while Samasuddin Yusop has been appointed secretary.

The appointments follow the death of Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who passed away on Dec 5 due to kidney failure and a lung infection.
