KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has dismissed claims that Pas would lose 37 parliamentary seats if he were to lead Perikatan Nasional (PN), describing the statement as “ridiculous”.
The Kemaman member of Parliament declined to comment further on remarks made by Sungai Buloh Pas chief Zaharudin Muhammad.
“Let him say whatever he wants,” Ahmad Samsuri said briefly when contacted yesterday.
“He’s ridiculous. It’s not worth even a single cent to say anything about him. Let him be,” he added.
Zaharudin was previously reported as saying that Pas risked losing 37 parliamentary seats should Samsuri take over the leadership of PN.
The son-in-law of Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang claimed his conclusion was based on the party’s internal data, although he declined to disclose details.
He also expressed concern over growing calls to replace Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin with Ahmad Samsuri, warning that such a move could have negative implications for the party and the country under three specific scenarios.
However, Zaharudin’s remarks were later dismissed by Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who clarified that the comments reflected personal views and did not represent the party’s position.
Tuan Ibrahim said Pas’ performance under Ahmad Samsuri’s leadership in Terengganu demonstrated otherwise, pointing to the party’s strong electoral showing in the state.
“If we look at the achievements of the Terengganu government under his leadership, Pas recorded an outstanding performance by winning all state assembly and parliamentary seats in Terengganu,” he said.
