Isuzu has recently unveiled its first-ever fully electric pick-up truck, the D-Max EV. According to the company, the truck has entered production, with left-hand drive models for Europe expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year. Meanwhile, the right-hand drive version is set to launch in the United Kingdom next year. For other markets, Isuzu has stated that deliveries will be based on demand.

Now, let’s take a closer look at what the Isuzu D-Max EV has to offer. As the brand’s first fully electric pick-up truck, it features a full-time four-wheel drive system, enabled by a dual-motor configuration – one motor on each axle. In terms of design, the D-Max EV closely resembles its diesel counterpart.

The front motor produces 58 PS (43 kW) and 108 Nm of torque, while the rear motor generates 132 PS (97 kW) and 217 Nm of torque. Combined, the powertrain delivers 190 PS (140 kW) and 325 Nm of torque. This setup enables the D-Max EV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 130 km/h.

The truck is equipped with a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a WLTP range of 263 km. Charging from 20% to 80% takes approximately one hour using a 50 kW AC charger. With an 11 kW DC charger, a full charge (0–100%) takes around 10 hours.

The D-Max EV boasts a maximum payload of 1,010kg and a towing capacity of up to 3,500kg – well within the expectations for a pick-up truck. It also offers 210 mm of ground clearance and can wade through water up to 600 mm deep. Off-road angles are respectable, with an approach angle of 30.5 degrees and a departure angle of 24.2 degrees. The turning radius is 6.1 metres.

To improve handling, Isuzu has replaced the diesel D-Max’s rear leaf spring suspension with a De Dion rear suspension system. The D-Max EV also comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/60R18 tyres.
