IRB launches Op Titan to hunt down tax evaders

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has launched a 10-day Tax Compliance Operation, codenamed Op Titan, starting today to enhance enforcement against tax evasion.

According to an IRB statement, Op Titan was initiated in response to certain parties employing aggressive tax planning to evade taxes through transactions between related companies.

“This manipulative practice undermines the fairness of the taxation system and must be addressed urgently.

“A total of 313 officers have been deployed to audit 103 companies across various industries to ensure the operation’s success,” the statement said.

IRB chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin said that this enforcement was vital to uphold integrity and fairness within the country’s tax system, ensuring continued compliance for the prosperity and well-being of the people.

“Public confidence will increase when there is constructive engagement between the IRB and taxpayers, motivating our officers to perform their duties with dedication and professionalism,” he said.
