IPRM on why accreditation matters in PR

KUALA LUMPUR: Professional accreditation is increasingly seen as an essential tool for public relations practitioners, providing recognition of their expertise and helping to strengthen the credibility and standing of the profession.

The Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM), the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) designation is regarded as a benchmark of excellence, demonstrating that practitioners have met high standards of knowledge, ethics and strategic capability.

Jabatan Kerja Raya Sarawak corporate communication manager for Pan Borneo Highway Sahrein Maloh said the APR certification is vital for practitioners as it validates their expertise, strengthens professional credibility and reflects a commitment to ethical and strategic communication.

He said pursuing APR not only improves career opportunities but also supports continuous professional development, enabling practitioners to keep pace with the evolving public relations landscape.

IPRM accreditation chair Professor Datuk Seri Dr Syed Arabi Idid said the certification equips practitioners with the foresight, credibility and skills needed to manage today’s complex communication environment.

“It is a mark of distinction that positions PR and communications as a respected profession.

“For the past 50 years IPRM has been propagating this benchmark for the industry, similar to other professional bodies globally including our Asean counterparts in Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines,” he said.

IPRM said the APR title allows practitioners to join a community committed to high professional standards and ethical practice.

The new accreditation cycle is now open, with applications closing on Sept 12, interviews on Sept 22 and the awarding ceremony in October, it added.
