The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has denied claims that stray dogs were buried alive at a pound in Lahat, following the circulation of videos online making the allegations.
MBI said the burial of the animals was part of procedures for managing strays and was carried out in accordance with established guidelines set by the authorities, Bernama reported.
“The animals involved had undergone the put-to-sleep process in a humane manner, based on the relevant legal and procedural frameworks,” MBI was quoted as saying.
It added that the euthanisation was carried out by the Perak veterinary services department, while burials were conducted only after the animals had been confirmed dead.
MBI said the burial was necessary to ensure that the disposal of the carcasses was done safely and in line with public health standards.
“The city council remains committed to the ethical and responsible management of stray animals, in accordance with procedures set by the relevant agencies,” it added.
Yesterday, two short video clips lasting 15 and 13 seconds, respectively, went viral on Facebook, showing dozens of stray dogs in cages on an MBI-owned lorry.
