Intel Lip-Bu Tan Met TSMC CEO Regarding Possible Collaboration

Lip-Bu Tan, the current CEO of Intel, reportedly met with TSMC’s CEO, C.C. Wei, and its former head, Morris Chang, recently to discuss how the two companies could collaborate and come up with something between the two of them.

“We clearly view TSMC as our partner, and they have been very good partners to have. (Retired TSMC founder) Morris (Chang) and (CEO) CC (Wei) are very long-time friends of mine. We also met recently (to) try to find areas we can collaborate and so that we can create a win, win situation,” Tan said on a call after Intel reported its quarterly results. – Reuters.

As you all know, Intel is currently going through a very rough patch. After effectively “retiring” then-CEO Pat Gelsinger, the blue chipmaker struggled to find its equilibrium. Its stock value got worse by the day, and it is still implementing staff layoffs, with the latest rounds of layoffs expected to occur soon. It also sold the majority stake of its Altera business division recently, to Silver Lake for US$4.5 billion (~RM19.67 billion), as part of its restructuring process.
