A suspended woman police officer claimed trial in the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today to a charge of obstructing a police officer from performing his duties last week.
Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, better known as “Inspector Sheila”, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to her before magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin, Kosmo reported.
According to the charge sheet, the 37-year-old is accused of intentionally obstructing police officer Malvinderjit Singh Teerath Singh, 37, from carrying out his duties during a crime prevention patrol.
The incident allegedly took place between 8.15pm and 8.30pm at a restaurant on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Dang Wangi here on Nov 4.
The charge, framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum two-year jail term or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer M Manoharan represented Sheila.
The court set bail at RM6,600 with one surety and fixed Jan 20 for case mention.
A video of Sheila recently went viral, allegedly showing her accusing a police officer of threatening a Pakistani man.
