Specialised training will be provided to all officers and personnel tasked with guarding national leaders and VVIPs to enhance their operational readiness following the security breach involving the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail said security measures for all leaders and heads of state, including sultans and governors, would be strengthened after the incident in which a woman ran towards Sultan Nazrin during the Perak state-level National Day celebration last Sunday.
“Officers serving with the palace and state governments will undergo personal protection courses that incorporate elements of Special Action Unit and commando training to improve security measures,” he was reported as saying by Berita Harian.
Police opened a disciplinary inquiry into officers and accompanying personnel following the incident which saw a 41-year-old woman detained by security personnel after entering the stage.
She was remanded until Wednesday, with the case investigated for attempted grievous hurt under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code.
A preliminary check revealed that she had a police record related to drug cases, and a history of receiving psychiatric treatment.
