PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department will not hesitate to take stern disciplinary action, if the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) confirms misconduct by any of its officers in Selangor.
Its director-general, Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, said the department had yet to receive an official report from EAIC regarding the case, which involves an allegation that officers failed to act on a complaint about an overstaying foreigner without valid travel documents.
“To date, we have not received any report from EAIC on the said matter. If the findings prove there was wrongdoing by any officer, the department will open a disciplinary file for further action.”
He said this when asked to comment on EAIC’s latest finding in relation to misconduct by Selangor Immigration department officers.
This afternoon, the EAIC announced that it had completed its investigation into the overstay of a foreigner complaint and found that the Selangor Immigration Department failed to comply with its own standard operating procedures in managing the complaint.
The commission said this failure resulted in the complainant’s report being mishandled.
As a result, EAIC has referred its recommendation for disciplinary action to the department’s Disciplinary Authority Board (Pihak Berkuasa Tatatertib).
Zakaria assured that appropriate action would be taken according to the provisions of the laws, if indeed there were evidence confirming the claims.
“The Immigration Department will not compromise or condone with any officer involved in misconduct,” he reassured in a brief reply to the ‘New Straits Times’ today.
