RAWANG:

Prime Minister Ibrahim today quipped that he would become Perodua’s “marketing officer” on a pro bono basis whenever he travels abroad, to help promote Malaysia’s homegrown carmaker.

“In the next week or two, I’ll be heading to South Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia.

“I’ve already promised to serve as Perodua’s first pro bono marketing officer. No pay, no salary,” he said, drawing laughter from Perodua staff during a visit to the company’s plant in Sungai Choh here.

said his visit today was not just an official engagement but a show of support for Perodua as a symbol of Malaysia’s capability in the automotive industry.

“I see workers here coming from all over the country: Penang, Perak, , Sabah and Sarawak.

“You’re all working as one team, proving that with technology, discipline and good management, nothing is impossible,” he said.

Perodua’s first EV to debut soon

Anwar also said that Perodua’s first electric vehicle (EV) model was expected to be launched at the end of the month.

He said the government would ensure that the launch was a national-level event as a symbol of Malaysia’s ability to produce another fully local modern vehicle at an affordable price.

“I will instruct the Cabinet to make the launch of Perodua’s new EV a major national agenda. It’s not just a product launch, but one that combines elements of governance, social responsibility and environmental protection,” he said.

The launch of Perodua’s EV will see it joining Proton in the EV segment. Proton introduced Malaysia’s first EV, the e.MAS 7, in December last year.
