Wan Saiful Wan Jan said he was asked a number of times if he was acting on Hamzah Zainudin’s instructions when he appeared before the party’s disciplinary board.
PETALING JAYA:

Sacked Bersatu leader Wan Saiful Wan Jan has backed a claim the party’s disciplinary board had deputy president Hamzah Zainudin in its crosshairs in its purge of several leaders.

The Tasek Gelugor MP said he was questioned repeatedly about Hamzah when he appeared before the party’s disciplinary board on Oct 8, and wondered why it was so “if Hamzah was not the target”.

This comes after Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who has been suspended by Bersatu, claimed that action had been taken against several leaders of the party due to their ties with Hamzah.

In a statement today, Wan Saiful, who was expelled from the party earlier this month, related what transpired during his disciplinary board hearing on Oct 8.

“The chairman (Radzi Manan, who heads the board) repeatedly asked whether I was acting under Hamzah’s instructions or whether he was the mastermind behind my actions,” he said.

“If Hamzah was not the target, why were such questions asked repeatedly?”

He said Wan Fayhsal’s claim was “based on the experiences that he and I went through”.

Earlier today, Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz criticised Wan Fayhsal for claiming that the disciplinary board was targeting Hamzah.

He described the allegation as “irresponsible”, and said it undermined the integrity of the party’s disciplinary process.

Bersatu had acted against Wan Saiful and Wan Fayhsal on Oct 14 for violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct.

The disciplinary board also expelled four division chiefs – Azrudin Idris (Hang Tuah Jaya), Faizal Asmar (Pengerang), Fadhli Ismail (Ipoh Timur) and Isa Saidi (Ampang).

Wan Fayhsal claimed that Hamzah, who is the opposition leader, was the real target behind the sanctions, adding that they were merely “collateral damage”.
