PETALING JAYA:

Dr Zakir Naik has denied that he has been diagnosed with AIDS, contrary to claims making the rounds on social media.

The controversial preacher said there was no truth to the claims.

“It’s rubbish! It’s fake news,” Naik told FMT.

Naik, who is out of the country, dismissed the claims through his lawyer, Akberdin Abdul Kadir.

The preacher was responding to claims that he had been diagnosed with the deadly disease and was currently being treated at a private hospital in the Klang Valley.

Naik went on to describe the claims as “hate speech” spread by irresponsible people, according to Akberdin.

“He is now checking on the background of these culprits before deciding the next course of action.”

Separately, Akberdin said such claims were drummed up to tarnish Naik’s image due to his popularity.

“It goes without saying that this was the reason for all the fake news.”

Akberdin also said Naik was in good health when he last saw the preacher.
