KEPALA BATAS, Oct 5 — An elderly man was stunned to discover that a viral video of a fiery car crash on Jalan Permatang Baru, Sungai Lokan, here yesterday involved his son.
The 7.30 am accident claimed two lives after the vehicle lost control, crashed into a pile of earth and caught fire.
Ahmad Lin @ Mustafa, 74, only found out his son, Mohd Fitri, 35, was a victim when friends visited his home in Kampung Teluk Amboi, Kuala Muda in Kedah, around 5 pm yesterday.
“I didn’t expect it was Mohd Fitri as he never informed the family he was going to Perak with friends. I only learned about the accident and the burnt car when his friends came here before rushing to Kepala Batas Hospital,” he told reporters at the hospital’s Forensic Unit today.
Despite the tragedy of losing their eighth child out of ten siblings, Ahmad said the family accepts it as God’s will.
“This loss is harrowing, as I also lost a seven-year-old daughter in a fire caused by a burning mosquito net in the 1970s,” he added.
The family is awaiting DNA test results from the victim’s sister to claim Mohd Fitri’s remains, a process that could take three weeks to a month due to the severely burnt, skeletal condition of the body.
The identity of the second victim remains unknown.
Mohd Arif, 31, the deceased’s younger brother, described him as hardworking, tidy, well-liked and unable to drive.
“He was simple, diligent with chores and disliked mess. The last time I saw him was the day before the accident, as we lived together,” he said. — Bernama
