Hulu Langat residents lodge police report against 'Glamping With Pride' organisers

HULU LANGAT: Residents from villages around the district lodged a police report today against the organisation of a camping programme alleged to promote deviant social behaviour, which is scheduled to take place here this weekend.

Ikatan Perpaduan Melayu Hulu Langat (Ikatan) chairman Ahmad Fuad Abdul Rahman said the group strongly objected to the programme, which he described as insensitive to the area’s Muslim-majority population.

“The organisation of this programme not only challenges social norms, but also constitutes an open insult to the sanctity of and the dignity of the Malay community, which forms the core of the local population in Hulu Langat.

“Ikatan views this programme as an attempt to normalise deviant ideologies that are rejected by , and as a threat to the moral values of the younger generation and the harmony of Islamic family institutions.

“This is also an attempt to turn Hulu Langat into a testing ground for deviant ideologies, and we are concerned similar programmes may be organised in the future,” he said at a press conference after lodging the police report at the Batu 18 police station here today.

Ahmad Fuad called for the programme to be cancelled immediately.

He said Ikatan also urged the authorities to investigate the organisers and the premises owner for possible violations of civil and syariah laws.

“The authorities must issue an official statement banning any programme that promotes LGBT activities, particularly within the Hulu Langat area.

“Our stance is based on our responsibility to defend and uphold the dignity and sanctity of Islam and the Malay community, in line with the Federal Constitution, the law and the rights of the people,” he said.

Previously, organisers of the ‘Glamping With Pride’ programme, scheduled to be held in Hulu Langat this weekend, said the event would proceed despite objections from various parties.

The programme is organised by a pro-LGBT group known as Jejaka and is described as a community-based retreat focusing on well-being, peer support and health awareness.

Kajang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, had earlier warned that firm action would be taken against the organisers if the programme proceeds.
