The government has agreed to install high-tech CCTVs at all Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency detention centres and national anti-drugs agency lockups nationwide.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said this was decided by the special Cabinet committee on national governance at a meeting yesterday, to ensure the safety of detainees.
He said this was part of the government’s strategic initiative, in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, to meet the needs of enforcement agencies and improve the monitoring of detention centres.
“The policy and legislative reforms we agreed on yesterday reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring that the public service is always responsive to national security needs while upholding the principles of efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in public sector governance,” he said in a Facebook post.
