BEIRUT, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) — A Hezbollah official and a civilian were killed Wednesday evening in an Israeli drone strike in the city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanese official and military sources.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that the strike targeted the Al-Asira neighborhood in Baalbek, killing two people.

Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center confirmed the attack targeted a vehicle. A Lebanese Army Intelligence source told Xinhua that two guided missiles were fired from Israeli drones. He identified the victims as Hezbollah official Hussein Sharif and civilian Kamal Raad.

A U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire has been in place between Hezbollah and Israel since Nov. 27, 2024, halting clashes that erupted during the Gaza war.

Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally carries out strikes in Lebanon, claiming they target Hezbollah “threats,” while maintaining its forces at five main points in the Lebanese border region.
